The West Side Community Garden is marking a milestone this month: 50 years as an oasis for Upper West Siders. To celebrate, the garden will host its annual Fall Arts & Crafts Festival on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Stretching along West 89th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam, the festival will feature jewelry, ceramics, fabric art, photography, paintings, note cards, glasswork, and more from local artists and crafters. One highlight is multimedia artist and performer Janet Restino, who will be selling her popular artwork printed on note cards, small posters, and more. Restino’s work is produced on acid-free watercolor paper with archival inks, making it well-suited for framing as affordable collectible art.

Saturday’s lineup is geared toward families. Kids’ Day will include crafts, a performance from Danny the Clown at 1 p.m., and a reading by author Carrie Sooter of her new picture book High Tea on East B at 2 p.m. Ballet Hispánico will follow with a performance at 3:30 p.m.

Sunday’s programming begins at noon with a concert from the New York String Society/Statue of Liberty Band under the direction of Stephen Josephs. From 2 to 3:30 p.m., poet David Elsasser of the West Side Arts Coalition will host a poetry reading and open mic, giving community members the chance to sign up and share their own work.

The West Side Community Garden is best known for its beloved annual Tulip Festival each spring, but this fall’s celebration will put the spotlight on art, music, and performance. For more information, visit westsidecommunitygarden.org
