Have you seen the giant tent that has recently appeared at Lincoln Center? It is circus time again, folks! Inside the two climate-controlled Big Tops is custom-built seating that can accommodate over 17,000 people. And most importantly, this magical setting houses the award-winning Big Apple Circus!
Bring the whole family over to Lincoln Center for a fun-filled show lead by ringmaster, John Kennedy Kane. The Acroboffos, world-renowned clowns, are ready to make you laugh. Emily and Menno Van Dyke will delight you with their unique act of Juggling Tango. You will be wowed by the soaring aerialists from Russia, Desire of Flight, Elayne Kramer and all the breathtaking contortionists, and the amazing Dalian Acrobatic Troupe of China. And of course, who could forget the beautiful Arabian horses, dogs, and ponies, professionally trained by Jenny Vidbel? Which act will be your favorite?
You can feel good about supporting Big Apple Circus, not only for the entertainment value, but also because of their outreach community programs. Clown Care is one such program, in which “clown doctors” bring laughter, fun, and a healing environment to children with diseases. Vaudeville Caravan serves to brighten the day of the elderly in assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Circus of the Senses allows vision and hearing impaired children to experience the show. This performance includes sign language interpreters, wireless headsets that give a live-action play-by-play, and a special touch session in the ring. Circus After School brings circus arts classes to underserved public schools and community facilities. This free-of charge training teaches at-risk children not only performance skills, but also life-lessons, such as teamwork, commitment, and perseverance.
Big Apple Circus LEGENDARIUM runs two hours, including one intermission. A few performances are already sold out, so don’t wait! To learn more about the show, the cast, community programs, and to get tickets, visit www.bigapplecircus.org.
