NYPD officials have issued an alert about an assault in Central Park last month. Police are hoping someone from the public will be able to assist them in identifying and locating the suspect.
According to the police report, the unknown suspect pictured above approached a 49-year-old man riding his bike near 60 West Drive on Tuesday, August 20 at about 6:10 p.m. Police say the alleged perpetrator “pushed him off his bicycle, causing him to sustain abrasions to his body from the fall.”
While the pictured suspect appears to have been running, police have not specified what prompted the attack. We have followed up with the NYPD for additional details.
Following the assault, the suspect fled by foot and the victim refused further medical attention on scene.
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
Does 60 West Drive mean West Park Dr near 60th Street?
I took it to mean the West Drive within Central Park. I don’t know how it and the other internal drives are numbered, but if West Drive addresses correspond to those along CPW, 60 West Drive would be in the vicinity of Tavern on the Green, a little north of the 66th Street Transverse.
Perhaps this guy is one of the minions of Gozer.
Chances are the person on the bike was riding where they should not be and perhaps the runner braced himself so as not to get hurt….way too little information here but this would be my guess as someone who has had this very thing happen to me as a runner.
Bikers that break the law by running red lights, or going the wrong way in bike lanes, should expect pedestrians to brace themselves, which sadly, can entail a biker being injured. Ride within the law, you’ll be less likely to end up on your back, or worse.
There’s a very good chance the biker performed some sort of infringing act on the runner- cut him off, didn’t stop at the light, forced him off his line on the road, threatened him with bodily harm, etc. There are far too many dangerous, non law abiding bicyclists on our streets than ever before and while many are very good around pedestrians, many “think” they are riding the last stage of Le Tour de France and carelessly force everybody else out of their space. I’ll bet we need to get “the rest of the story.”
