A mouse enjoying a slab of raw meat at the Columbus Circle Whole Foods was recently spotted by a shopper who decided to share her experience in a short video. TikTok user (and former Whole Foods shopper) DefineBritt shared the clip on Monday, May 24, and it’s racked up 1.8 million views since.
This also appears to be her first TikTok video, so if she’s looking to make a career out of it she’s certainly off to a good start. DefineBritt also has a Youtube channel where she posted an in-depth analysis of the incident.
After the incident went viral, a Whole Foods spokesperson told Eat This, Not That that they were taking the situation seriously.
“We immediately removed and disposed of all products in the case, performed a deep cleaning, and brought in a third-party service for a thorough inspection,” the spokesperson told the food publication. “The store diligently followed our detailed protocol in response and continues to work closely with our food safety team.”

Here’s the viral video, if you actually want to watch it. It’s definitely a mouse eating veal.
@definebritt@wholefoodsofficials you doing bad guys not what I wanted to see today!!!!? original sound – DefineBritt
In the comments section, DefineBritt said she left immediately without making a purchase, and she doesn’t plan to go back. At least to this location.
In more pleasant Columbus Circle food news, signage was recently spotted at 58th and Broadway for a new Farinella location.
Very classy mouse…dining on “osso buco”, probably the most expensive cut in the case!
I have a picture of a mouse in the yogurt cooler at Barzini’s. That’s where they make you line up for the cash registers and the little guys were having a party.
My own avoidance of Whole Foods continues unabated.
I hope the mouse enjoyed its delicacy, though I would encourage it to go vegan.
I’m actually surprised the mouse didn’t get run over by a shopping cart. Shopping at that Whole Foods is a contact sport, people bash right into you and keep on going.
It’s crazy like a few weeks ago I was treated like I didn’t even exist in front of the butcher shop the lady wouldn’t take my order nobody asked me if I needed help I’m so glad you didn’t keep your mouse and keep your meat I’ll go somewhere else thank you
As mice go, this was a cute one. I hope he made it out of the store alive before they did that deep cleaning.
I wish I had a nickel for every old French cookbook I own that all invariably describe shank as an “inexpensive” cut. Shank and oxtail used to be cuts for the stock pot.
