The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, working alongside the NYPD, is bringing a gun buyback to Central Baptist Church at 166 West 92nd Street on Saturday, June 13, with drop-offs accepted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone can surrender a firearm anonymously — no identification is required — and walk out with a prepaid card on the spot once the weapon is inspected by an NYPD specialist.

How much depends on what’s turned in. Operable handguns and assault rifles are each worth a $500 prepaid card, while ghost guns and 3D-printed firearms bring $200. Operable rifles and shotguns are worth $75, and air guns, non-operable guns, and imitation pistols each fetch $25. Payment is capped at three guns per person for a maximum of $1,500, with a limit of two ghost or 3D-printed guns per participant.

Guns should be brought in a plastic or paper bag or box, and anyone driving one over is asked to keep it in the trunk. Active and retired law enforcement officers and licensed gun dealers are not eligible to take part, but a resident can send someone else to surrender a gun on their behalf. Questions can be directed to 347-749-2306, and anyone who needs disability accommodations is asked to contact Lieutenant Durets at 646-610-5323 or communityaffairs@nypd.org at least 72 hours before the event.

The buyback is the office’s first of the year and falls during Gun Violence Awareness Month, part of what the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has described as a broader strategy to curb gun violence in the borough.

“Combating gun violence requires more than prosecution – it demands community investment, partnerships and meaningful engagement to build trust and improve public safety,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Our comprehensive approach, including gun buybacks, are making a real impact in Manhattan with a 60% decline in shootings since I took office. Gun buybacks are a critical violence prevention strategy that safely removes firearms from our communities before they can be used in a tragedy. Every gun turned in reduces the risk of a potential act of violence or accidental shooting, and I encourage New Yorkers with firearms to turn them in on June 13.”
