NYC business owner Gene Nifenecker of Balloon Kings is excited to share over 500 feet of “balloon happiness” along Amsterdam Avenue this weekend. The aim of the initiative is to welcome customers back to the neighborhood for 50% indoor dining, which the governor’s office recently announced would begin on March 19.
Between Friday and Sunday, hundreds of balloons will cover storefronts between 79th and 81st Streets on Amsterdam Avenue, as a way to welcome back customers and boost neighborhood morale.

“A lot of neighborhoods have been hit hard with store closings and indoor dining being limited over the past year,” said Nifenecker. “Foot traffic has decreased and the lively neighborhood we once had is no more. Daylight Savings Time brings longer days and hopefully coupled with increased dining capacity our neighbors will come out to show some support to our block this weekend. I just wanted to do my part to bring a little balloon happiness to my friends and neighbors.”
Before the weekend begins, Balloon Kings’ six person staff will be tying balloons to residential buildings along the same streets. These inflatable bouquets will be accompanied with invitations for locals to dine in this weekend in support of #BKOpensAmsterdam. The team will then begin installing balloons above storefront displays on Thursday. Balloon Kings will continue to show support and continue the fun all weekend at their store, located at 207 West 80th street, by offering free balloons to kids (and kids at heart).

I love this company! I don’t have much need for balloons but I always patronize them when I can. They bring such cheer to the neighborhood.
Balloons are horrible for wildlife they end up in our oceans to strangle fish and fowl!! We spend all summer cleaning the beach of them!! Please no more balloons!
