At least two business owners operating on the Upper West Side were recently called out for ripping down posters of Israelis being held hostage by Hamas.
In a video shared widely, including on the ILTUWS Instagram page, the man who operates a Halal cart on 80th and Broadway was filmed smiling and giving a thumbs up after reportedly being spotted ripping down posters.

“I observed 20 minutes ago, this man who sells coffee on the corner of 80th and Broadway, right near Zabar’s, I observed him pulling down these posters. These posters were of children who were abducted, and kidnapped, and taken by Hamas. When I asked him he said he didn’t care. He supports terror. Please do not support this man. This man is on 80th and Broadway. He thinks this is a joke. Little children were murdered and he ripped these posters down. Please do not support this man.”

The owners of Excellence Barber Shop, which has two locations that are both on the Upper West Side – 2265 Broadway (between 81st and 82nd streets) and 473 Amsterdam Avenue (between 82nd and 83rd streets) – were also photographed standing by a street sign, with one of the men holding crumpled up posters.
Beyond small business owners, a number of semi-high profile New Yorkers have recently been caught in the act.

Victoria Ruiz is a public defender who was outed by @StopAntisemitism after being spotted ripping down posters. When contacted by the NY Post, her employer, New York County Defender Services, apologized for her actions but did not let her go.
“It has come to our attention that one of our attorneys, Victoria Ruiz, recently attended a public vigil solely in her capacity as a private citizen,” an office spokesperson told the publication. “Some of her actions at the event have drawn sharp criticism and we strongly condemn them as highly insensitive. Ms. Ruiz has apologized to those who were hurt or confused by her actions. After an internal review, and a pledge by all involved to do better, we accept this apology and now refocus on the vigorous pursuit of our mission: achieving justice and dignity for every individual we represent.”

And how long would posters of Palestinian civilians killed by Israel, just in the last 10 days, stay up?
Also, those posters make an accusation about [mass] rapes committed by Hamas [on Oct. 7th]. But there’s nothing to substantiate this wild accusation. So the posters are spreading extremist fake news.
Israel absused/starved Gaza for years, and then Hamas organized an effective, if short lived, attack. What did Israel expect was going to happen? “Where was the IDF?” — that’s what those posters really need to say.
Some vendors took down technically illegal posters that present an extremely simplistic view of the war between Hamas and Israel. Not really a great surprise.
I like that on the old Verizon store at West 80th and Broadway someone has slipped in a missing UWS person poster that’s designed to look like these kidnapped posters. Kind of sad that the people looking for the missing UWS resident feel that their posters will get more attention this way.

People have a right to boycott a business that supports terrorists. No one printed their home addresses or the names of their family members. I don’t want to give money to someone who thinks it’s okay to laugh and smile at the existence of hostages. Given the neighborhood, a lot of their customers are probably Jewish. If they don’t want Jewish customers, so be it. I’m happy to not use them.
