Upper West Siders Chose How to Spend Over $1 Million in Public Funds — Here Are the Winning Projects

The votes are in.

After months of community involvement — from idea collection last fall to ballot casting last month — thousands of 6th District stakeholders have decided how to allocate over $1 million in capital funding to long-lasting projects across the Upper West Side.

Councilmember Gale Brewer announced the four winning projects from this year’s Participatory Budgeting cycle:

  • New York Public Library technology upgrade ($250,000) – Upgraded technology resources and computer equipment at St. Agnes, Riverside, and Lincoln Center Performing Arts Libraries.
  • Riverside Park public bathroom improvements ($300,000) – Upgrades and repairs to existing bathroom facilities in Riverside Park.
  • FDNY Ladder 25 HVAC replacement ($400,000) – Replacement of rooftop heating, ventilation, and AC units at the firehouse at 205 W. 77th Street.
  • John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) video board installation ($175,000) – Video boards in the athletic facility to help students and visitors navigate school activities and public events at 899 10th Avenue.

“My thanks to everyone who submitted ideas, volunteered, or cast a vote,” Brewer said. “Your involvement continues to make a real difference in shaping our community.”

The winning projects will be included in the city’s upcoming Fiscal Year budget in June.
