A newly opened eatery has just landed on a citywide “must-eat” list published by Resy, even though they’re clearly not on it.

New Absolute Bagels snagged the No. 13 spot on “The Resy Hit List: Where In New York You’ll Want To Eat Right Now.” The list usually spotlights buzzy downtown openings, hard-to-book dining rooms, and trend-driven concepts — making this Upper West Side inclusion especially surprising.

The beloved Broadway storefront reopened in late December at 2788 Broadway (between West 107th and 108th streets), bringing life back to the former home of the iconic Absolute Bagels. While the original shuttered abruptly in 2024, its revival under new ownership has quickly regained momentum — winning over longtime locals and, now, the city’s food media.

In its Feb. 1 write-up, Resy focused on what makes New Absolute stand out most: bagels that are hand-rolled, kettle-boiled, oven-baked, and “exceedingly fresh,” with a crisp crust and soft, fluffy interior — the same qualities that made the original location so beloved.

Last month, The New York Times added New Absolute in its roundup of the city’s best bagels, calling its offerings “extraordinary,” with a “golden crust and honeycomb-like crumb,” and naming it the top choice in the surrounding neighborhood.

For Upper West Siders, the recognition feels more like confirmation than surprise. On opening week, lines wrapped the corner before 8 a.m., neighbors greeted each other like old friends, and free bagels were handed out as a welcome-back gesture.
