Following myriad headlines about an 81-year-old woman who was randomly assaulted on 66th and Amsterdam Avenue, NYPD officials have issued an alert about another recent attack against an unsuspecting senior–and it happened on the same day just block apart.

Both unprovoked assaults took place on Friday, September 13.

The first assault happened at about 2 p.m., when a 77-year-old woman was punched in the eye while standing outside of 27 West 72 Street (between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue). The suspect, pictured above and described by police as a “male with a medium build [who] was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, tan pants, and white sneakers,” fled by foot westbound towards Columbus Avenue. The victim sustained minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

The second assault, against the 81-year-old woman, happened at about 7 p.m. on Friday. The woman had been walking her dog near her apartment at 66th and Amsterdam Avenue when an unidentified man initially walked past her. In a video obtained by Fox 5 New York, the man can be seen turning around, walking back and punching her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground and suffer a concussion.

In a post-incident interview with Fox 5, the woman said she felt lucky to be alive, despite having bruises on her face and neck, and that she hopes the perpetrator will receive treatment. “It was not against me,” she told the outlet. “He is sick and he did not really rob me. He did not take anything. He just hit me for no good reason.”

She also made it clear that she won’t let this incident change anything. “I’m not going to hide in my apartment.”

On Friday, the NYPD issued an official alert about the incident, describing the suspect as a “male with a medium build and light complexion [between] 30 [and] 35 years of age, [standing] 6’0″ in height, with black hair and facial hair.” Police added, “He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt with white lettering in the front, black pants, white sneakers and carrying a brown jacket.”

Police also shared two photos and a video of the suspect (leading up to but not including the assault):

Anyone with relevant information about either incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
