An Upper West Side pizza place just snagged a title that most slice shops around the world can only dream about — and it’s putting a neighborhood slice squarely on the global map.

Mama’s TOO!, located at 2750 Broadway between West 105th and 106th streets, landed the #1 position on Time Out’s newly published roundup, “The 18 best pizzas in the world right now.” It was the only New York City pizzeria to make the list, beating Rome’s 180grammi Pizzeria Romana (in 2nd place) and London’s Short Road Pizza (in 3rd).

The honor was awarded specifically for Mama’s Too’s Cacio e Pepe pizza, a decadent square slice topped with whipped mascarpone, aged mozzarella, Pecorino Romano and Parmigiano Reggiano. In its write-up, Time Out described a slice “hidden under a snowstorm of pecorino and Parmigiano Reggiano shreds,” praising how the cheeses melt together into a balance of creamy mascarpone, funky aged mozzarella and tangy, stretchy richness. The publication also noted the fresh cracked black pepper layered into the pie, a key nod to the classic Roman pasta that inspired it.

For Upper West Siders, the recognition may feel less like a surprise and more like continued validation. Since opening in late 2017, Mama’s Too has built a reputation as one of the city’s elite slice destinations, drawing steady lines and a steady stream of glowing press. We recently placed the shop at #1 in our own roundup of the Upper West Side’s best slice spots, writing that after our first visit, it felt like “Mama’s is truly in a league of its own.”

Owner Frank Tuttolomondo — who expanded the brand with a second Mama’s location in the West Village around 2024 — has helped turn the shop into a pilgrimage site for pizza fans. Beyond the celebrated Cacio e Pepe, favorites include the square pepperoni slices (corner pieces are prized), the Angry Nonna with hot soppressata and Calabrian chili oil, and the classic House Slice in the round.

Now, with a global #1 ranking attached to its name, Mama’s Too isn’t just a neighborhood standout — it’s officially competing on the world stage. For locals, it’s another reminder that some of the best food in the world might be sitting just a few blocks away.
