The NYPD is seeking assistance from the public in locating a suspect they say stole a wheelchair from a 95-year-old man this week.
The victim left his electric wheelchair outside of a professional office located at 277 West End Avenue (at 73rd Street), police say. This was on Tuesday, May 3 at 8am.
At 10am, he returned to discover his wheelchair was gone.
An ongoing investigation determined that the unknown suspect removed the wheelchair — a red Pride electric wheelchair valued at $2, 570 — at 8:10am.
The photo and video below show the suspect riding the victim’s wheelchair south on West End Ave.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter. All calls are strictly confidential.
This is why we can’t have nice things
This is what happens when career criminals are treated like victims.
That’s awful this happened to someone so old, but leaving an expensive vehicle outside alone for 2 hours? Hardly unexpected.
It is expected because our society puts up with it.
This what you get with public housing.
