Tuesday is the night nobody bothers making plans for. But a nearby burger counter with a cult following is out to change that, and it’s dangling free burgers, a round of drinks, and an exclusive tee at anyone willing to show up and prove what they know.
Burger Joint at Thompson Central Park, tucked behind the red curtain on the lobby level at 119 West 56th Street, has launched a new trivia night. It runs every other Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is hosted by local trivia enthusiast Jourdan Nokleby. Each event is built around four rounds and a single theme, which means anyone who has stored an unreasonable amount of information about one very specific subject will eventually get their moment.
Here are the upcoming themes:
- August 4: Boy Bands
- August 18: The Shows of HBO
- September 1: The 90s
- September 15: Gilmore Girls
- September 29: Conspiracy Theories
- October 13: Disney
- October 27: Halloween
Dates are subject to change, and the most current schedule always lives on Eventbrite.
The prizes are worth the effort. First place earns every member of the winning team a complimentary burger card, redeemable on a future visit. Second place takes 20% off an entire order on a future visit, and third place gets a complimentary fries card for each team member. There is also a prize for best team name, which comes with a complimentary round of drinks at Parker’s that same evening, so the pun you have been sitting on finally has a purpose.
Then there’s the reward almost nobody will claim. Any team that finishes with a perfect score takes the first place prize plus a Burger Joint swag pack for every member, featuring the exclusive Burger Joint x Dinner Service NY ringer tee and matching hat.
A few rules before you start recruiting. Teams are capped at five players, and each participating team member must spend a minimum of $15 on food, beverages, or merchandise to compete.
That last part just got easier, because Burger Joint is also rolling out a discount for its neighbors. Present a New York State ID or driver’s license, or a valid NYC university or school ID, and you’ll get 15% off your order. It’s good on every item on the menu and can be redeemed once per day, per guest, whether or not there’s a trivia round happening.
