The Gyro Project, which we wrote about in January, will be celebrating its grand opening at 2062 Broadway (southeast corner of West 71st Street) on Wednesday, April 7, offering Upper West Siders “authentic Greek street food with a contemporary twist.”

“On Thursday, April 10, the restaurant will host a celebration where the first 50 people in line for dinner, starting at 5 p.m., will receive a free t-shirt, swag and a free gyro – the restaurant’s signature menu item, which starts with a pita filled with either beef & lamb, chicken or pork belly, and then topped with crispy french fries, tomatoes, onions and any of the restaurant’s house made sauces, including tzatziki, spicy feta, TGP house sauce, hot harissa or honey mustard,” a press release states.

People seem pretty excited about the neighborhood addition, at least judging by the comments on our Instagram post.
The Gyro Project was founded in 2023 in Fort Lee, NJ by restauranteurs George Tenedios and Spiro Kokkosis. The UWS location–the restaurant’s first in NYC and third overall–will be a collaboration between Tenedios, Kokkosis and the team behind Kyma Restaurants in Hudson Yards and Flatiron. A fourth location is being planned for Kips Bay this summer.
Tenedios also owns Fresh&Co and Nizuc, a Mexican restaurant in Midtown.

“Offering a cornerstone of tradition and a culinary escape to the bustling markets of Athens and beyond, The Gyro Project will offer Greek mezedes (or appetizers), specialty fries, pitas and bowls, salads, a range of entree platters, feta-brined whole bird rotisserie chicken, extensive traditional sweet and savory Greek bakery items, and a full froyo program with twists such as a de-constructed baklava,” the press release states.
The Gyro Project’s Fort Lee location has a Google review score of 4.5 and a Yelp score of 4.2 (both out of 5). The chicken gyro and chicken souvlaki appear to be their most popular items.

Actually, it opened to day, April 3rd. I guess that today was not the “Grande” opening.
April 7th is Monday not Wednesday
