On December 19, a 32-year-old male riding a northbound 2 train was assaulted when the train reached 72nd and Broadway.
Three teenage boys, one of whom has now been arrested, punched the victim in the face, causing bruising and swelling. They then forcibly removed his iPhone 13, worth an estimated $500.
The two teens still at large are described by police as “males [with] dark complexion, approximately 15 to 18 years of age. One was last seen wearing a red jacket, black jeans, white sneakers and a red backpack. The other suspect was last seen wearing a black jacket, light gray ripped jeans, white sneakers and a multi-color backpack.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter. All calls are strictly confidential.
What do these robber/assaulters suppose to do with an iPhone? Nearly everyone can brick his smartphone remotely. Separately, it’s not easy to crack the passcode for smartphones.
And how do these idiots suppose they’re going to avoid station security cameras?
They don’t care. They figure that there will be no consequences.
There may be consequences like jail time, especially if the victim presses assault charges.
Most importantly, they don’t believe they will get jail time. Thus, they commit the crime.
(I don’t believe they will either.)
They say don’t judge a book by its cover. But the first word that comes to mind after reading the story and seeing the picture is “thugs”.
On a more positive note, they do have good prospects for the future:
replacing existing inmates who age out or die, creating new spaces in the NY prison system.
