More than a decade after Sting and Trudie Styler sold their Central Park-facing duplex, the apartment is heading back onto the market — and in a twist that’s rare at this price point, its interiors remain almost exactly as the rock star left them.

The spread spans the 16th and 17th floors of 15 Central Park West, the Robert A.M. Stern-designed limestone tower, and it’s been listed for $45 million. The asking price comes in $5 million below what the current owners, described by sources as Asian investors, paid when they bought the residence from Sting and Styler in 2018, according to the New York Post, which first reported the story. The reason the interiors are so well-preserved? The sellers appear to have never actually moved in. “No one has lived there since Sting,” listing broker Michael Lorber of Douglas Elliman told the Post.

Sting — born Gordon Sumner — first bought the penthouse from the sponsor in 2007 for $27 million, shortly after 15 Central Park West opened as one of Manhattan’s most sought-after addresses. He and Styler then hired architect Lee F. Mindel of Shelton, Mindel & Associates to design the interiors. A decade later, the couple listed the residence for $56 million before selling for $50 million in 2018.

Mindel’s work remains in place, including a round gas fireplace in the great room. The current owners also commissioned a full redesign from Foster + Partners, the firm led by British architect Lord Norman Foster — but per the Post, those plans were never executed. Whoever buys next inherits both the Mindel interiors and permitted-but-unbuilt Foster plans.

According to the listing description, the duplex measures more than 5,400 square feet with 44 feet of direct Central Park frontage. A 400-square-foot private terrace extends the living space outdoors, and floor-to-ceiling French doors in the living room frame the park across both levels of the home. A sculptural curved staircase anchors the entry, and a double-sided fireplace separates the living room from a sitting area with built-in shelving.

The main level also includes a library, a separate dining room that doubles as a media room, and a streamlined chef’s kitchen with its own internal staircase connecting to the floor above. The primary suite upstairs overlooks Central Park and features two dressing rooms, dual spa-style bathrooms — one with both park and city views — and a sauna. Two additional bedrooms each have en-suite baths, and a large home office configurable as a fourth bedroom includes its own bathroom and a secondary staircase leading back to the kitchen. The upper level also has a separate elevator entrance.

Common charges run $14,282 per month, with taxes at $9,494.

At 43 stories and just over 200 units, 15 Central Park West remains one of the city’s best-known trophy buildings despite competition from newer luxury condo towers, including the taller 220 Central Park South — also a Stern design. Past and present residents have included Robert De Niro, Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg, Kelsey Grammer, Alex Rodriguez and NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon. Building amenities include a landscaped motor court, on-site parking, a 14,000-square-foot fitness center, a 75-foot skylit lap pool, a spa, a screening room, private dining and catering services, wine storage, a library and a business center.

The listing agents are Michael Lorber and Alexander Boriskin of Douglas Elliman. Here’s a look at the listing.
