At 12:40pm on Friday, City Council Member Gale Brewer announced on Twitter that West 87th Street between Columbus and Central Park West had been closed to vehicle traffic due to a sinkhole opening up.

The city water main has NOT been shut off at this time.

She later mentioned that the DOT and DEP identified a “larger area” in need of repair, as well as a leak on 103rd between West End and Broadway. Repairs have led water to be shut off for about 200 households.
