The beloved bake shop resting on the corner of West 105th Street and Broadway for the last 25 years is facing eviction.
According to a lawsuit filed Friday in Manhattan Supreme Court, Silver Moon Bakery, located at 2740 Broadway, owes over $200,000 in rent and other dues after overstaying its lease, which allegedly expired in the spring of 2024. The report was first published by Crain’s New York Business.

“Despite the expiration of the Lease, [the] Tenant failed to vacate and surrender or relinquish possession of the Premises at the end of term,” says the filing submitted by Broadside Realty Corporation, a Westchester-based real estate firm. The landlord claims Silver Moon failed to vacate the space even after sending a 30-day Notice of Termination in early June 2024, notifying Silver Moon of its decision to terminate the tenancy and demanding they surrender the premises by July 31, 2024.
Eight months later, Silver Moon Bakery has continued to operate in the space. The bakery’s owner, Judith Norell, allegedly stopped making payments in August 2024, according to documents. So far, there’s an unpaid balance of $194,692 for the use and occupancy of the space through the end of 2024, along with an additional $9,045.95 in debt as of January 9, 2025.
In October, the baked goods shop lamented in a sign on its door the loss of its longtime outdoor seating area due to new regulations from the Department of Transportation,” reported Crain’s. It is not stated whether this change had an effect on the bakery’s rent issues, nor is it explained why the bakery’s lease wasn’t renewed in May 2024.
Broadside Realty is seeking the bakery’s eviction, and a decision is still pending before Judge Jeffrey Zellan, according to documents.

ILTUWS reached out to Silver Moon Bakery owner Judith Norell who said she’d call us later this week. We will update this story when we hear from her.
The loss of Silver Moon would be a tremendous blow to the neighborhood. In 2023, we named Silver Moon Bakery the final stop in our Upper West Side Cookie Crawl, lauding the artisanal bakery’s Linzer tortes and palmier elephant ear cookies.

Why can’t Silver Moon have outdoor seating like Mama’s Too has? They set up picnic tables outside.
They should run a GoFundMe. Many people would be interested in keeping the bakery open.
It doesn’t seem to be a money issue. The landloard wants them out. Regardless of how many in the neighborhood would like Silver Moon to stay open, they don’t own the building and have no leaze. They are squatters at this point.
First Absolute, now this. I’m moving to Canada.
Based on the information here it sounds like they are sadly on their way out regardless of how it settles legally. Their lease was terminated.
judith’s original Silver Moon partner, Georgia, was partner-owner in the properties on the block of bway from w 115 to w 116 streets on the east side of bway. her step brother was the other partner in thereal estate. he bought her out a decade or so ago, as part of his law suit that forced georgia to sell.
