Scary Subway Monster Tries to Rob Straphanger at Knifepoint, Drops Ethnic Slurs

A man with a yellow jacket and a maniacal grin is wanted for attempting to rob a straphanger on the Upper West Side this past weekend. The NYPD is hoping someone from the public will be able to help them identify and locate the perp, who as far as we know is a real person.

It happened at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday when a 48-year-old man riding a southbound 2 train was approached by the stranger at the 96th Street station.

“The individual displayed a knife, demanded money, and used [an] anti-ethnic slur towards the victim,” NYPD officials report. “The individual fled on foot to parts unknown. There are no reported injuries due to this incident.”

Police describe the suspect as a male with a light complexion, standing about 5’9” with a medium build. Per the blurry-but-extremely-terrifying-if-you-zoom-in image above, he was last seen wearing a yellow jacket, dark-colored pants, a green t-shirt, multi-colored sneakers and a black hat.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
