The new spot comes from Prohibition co-owner Michael Trenk, who told us he actually lived in an apartment above the storefront for 22 years and had always hoped to open a business on the block. He’s excited to help revitalize the street following the closures of both Pinkberry and Starbucks.Pure Green–which offers acai bowls, smoothies and cold-pressed juices–was founded in NYC back in 2014. It’s now a national brand with over 70 locations around the country, including several in Brooklyn.

Michael Cecchini, VP of Franchise Operations at Pure Green, spoke with us a bit about the company’s quality control process. Two things he stressed were that their cold-pressed juices are developed in consultation with dietitians they’ve partnered with over the years, and that all supplement partners undergo testing for heavy metals and other potentially harmful substances. In addition, he tells us they don’t use scoopable acai because it comes with added sugars and can potentially be contaminated. Also, they don’t use ice in their smoothies (though he ensured us they are delivered cold, as the fruits are frozen).
