Thanks to Steven Stark for the tip and photo!

Picky Barista, the family-owned coffee shop that’s been steadily growing its presence on the Upper West Side, has put up signage at its next location.

The new space is being prepped at 2321 Broadway, on the corner of 84th Street. The space was most recently home to a Variazioni, which moved into the former Aldo in February 2023 after the shoe store’s space had sat empty for a few years. Before Aldo, the corner was home to a Coach store. We’ve reached out to Picky Barista about a target opening date and will provide an update if and when we hear back.

The business got its start at 2680 Broadway, between 102nd and 103rd streets, back in 2019, when it was still called Peaky Barista. It later added a second UWS location at 667 Columbus Avenue, between 92nd and 93rd streets, and a shop at 1220 Lexington Avenue on the Upper East Side. When the 72nd Street location opened in October 2023 at 245 West 72nd Street, the owners confirmed that all of their shops would be switching to the Picky Barista name. The company’s website also lists a location at 431 West 121st Street.

Picky Barista is run by husband and wife Dragan and Sofija Bulic. Dragan came to New York from Serbia in 2008 with a decade of hospitality experience behind him. The shop serves Stumptown coffee pulled on a Slayer espresso machine, and alongside the usual lattes and cortados, the menu includes Balkan coffee. There’s also a selection of homemade pastries, and the website describes the shops as cozy and hip with a European feel.
