Just a few weeks after we first spotted signage, Fellini Coffee has opened its newest location on the Upper West Side–the downtown-born brand’s first in the neighborhood and fourth in the city. The new spot opened on Friday, May 16, and just a week later, the café is already packed with patrons.

Located at 523 Amsterdam Avenue (between West 85th and 86th streets), the space is small but thoughtfully designed with vintage-style chandeliers, elegant wall sconces, deep wood paneling, and a polished marble bar. The only hint of imperfection is an unfinished patch in the ceiling where a fan fixture is still uncovered. “You’re not supposed to see that,” said Riley, a barista, when I pointed it out.
Fellini launched its first location in the West Village in 2003 and has since expanded to Chelsea and Soho. Known for its balance of quality and aesthetic, Fellini roasts its own beans–sourced from India (Robusta), Brazil, Papua New Guinea, and Colombia–and offers an extensive drink menu, from classics like cappuccinos and flat whites to juices and teas. Signature items include the “Dolce Vita,” a $7 caramel latte named after Italian director Federico Fellini’s most famous film, and a “Tiramisu Latte,” an $11 drink made with mascarpone, cocoa and espresso to replicate the iconic Italian dessert.

Food options include avocado toast, prosciutto croissants, frittatas, pizzettas and more. The pastries are a standout, delivered fresh each morning from a New Jersey bakery and beautifully displayed at the counter. The almond croissants ($6) and a pillowy vanilla almond cake ($9) quickly caught my eye.
Outside, a charming curbside window makes grabbing a to-go drink quick and convenient. Just look for the burgundy “ESPRESSO” awning and the curbside menu. Hours at this new location are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
