Paper House Space on Market for Reduced Price

The retail space which card, stationery and party store Paper House occupies, located at 269 Amsterdam Avenue between 72nd and 73rd Streets, is now on the market for a new and reduced price of $25,000 per month. Thanks to ‘Upper West Sider’ for notifying us.

In 2019, a “for rent” sign first appeared in the window of Paper House. The space was originally asking $40,000 per month and was soon reduced to $35,000 per month.

The space is being represented by Walker Malloy, and the listing brochure indicates it will be available for a new tenant within a 30 day notice. Here’s the listing.

We called the owner of Paper House who didn’t have a lot of info to share. He indicated that he wasn’t aware of the online listing and simply said “we’ll stay open for as long as we can.”

We reached out to the landlord, Michael Laub, who stated that “Paper House has been an institution in the Community. The owner Kenny is having a difficult time making making it through this time. As is Utopia & the Nail Spa. If people don’t support these businesses they won’t be able to make it through.”

Paper House has been open for about 40 years.

In late August, the space which Utopia Diner occupies, located right next door at 267 Amsterdam and also owned by Laub, also appeared on the market. This came to the surprise of Utopia’s owner, Mike Labry, who ended up meeting with Laub to discuss the matter. After their meeting, Labry told us they worked everything out and Utopia was here to stay. As of writing, Utopia’s space is no longer on the market.
