The streaming platform has renewed the show for a sixth season and confirmed that it will be heading overseas to London, marking the first time the story departs from its Manhattan setting. The news arrived the same day the Season 5 finale dropped on October 28. In that episode, titled “The House Always,” Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez wrapped up another case at the Arconia, uncovering the killer of the building’s doorman, Lester Coluca. Once that mystery was solved, a new one began—with a connection that leads across the Atlantic.
“Self-explanatory! Hooray!” Martin wrote on Instagram after Hulu confirmed the renewal. Gomez added in her own post, “Looks like our fam is going to London y’all.”
Since its debut in 2021, Only Murders in the Building has been defined by its Upper West Side setting. The Arconia—a fictionalized version of the Belnord on West 86th Street—has served as both backdrop and character, capturing the neighborhood’s mix of elegance, eccentricity, and communal intrigue. The show’s blend of comedy, mystery, and nostalgia helped cement the UWS as a cultural touchstone for millions of viewers, and many local fans consider the series a love letter to their neighborhood.
The upcoming London shift represents a major tonal change. Season 6 will keep the main trio intact—Martin, Short, and Gomez—but take their true-crime podcast abroad, opening the door to new storylines and international guest stars. The move may also symbolize a transition point for the series, which has already earned 56 Emmy nominations and seven wins since its launch.
While the show’s creators, Steve Martin and John Hoffman, haven’t revealed whether the Arconia will still appear in future episodes, the building’s role in shaping the series can’t be overstated. For many Upper West Siders, Only Murders became a mirror—satirizing and celebrating the quirks of co-op life, neighborly gossip, and the city’s creative pulse.
Even as the characters trade the Belnord’s ornate lobby for London fog, the spirit of the Upper West Side—the place where it all began—will remain central to the story’s identity.
