The Knicks are in the NBA Finals for the first time in 27 years, the city is giddy, and somewhere on Broadway, a marketing genius got to work.

The result is a limited-edition black-and-white cookie, this time finished in orange and blue. The legendary Upper West Side institution has taken its most iconic dessert, swapped the usual glaze for team colors, and offered it up for the occasion. As Zabar’s points out, it doesn’t get much more New York than a black-and-white cookie — or, as the case may be, a blue-and-orange one.The timing is hard to argue with. The Knicks haven’t been this far since 1999, when they last met the Spurs in the Finals, and a generation of fans has been waiting for an excuse to celebrate. Zabar’s, ever attentive, has supplied one in dessert form.
It’s a familiar move. This is the same shop that gave the MTA a $1.20 subway bagel, teamed up with Coach on a $550 logo tote, and has its own appreciation day on the calendar. A themed Knicks cookie is right on brand.
The cookies come six to a pack in a Zabar’s padded tote and run $29.98. You’ll find them in-store at 2245 Broadway at 80th Street, or available for nationwide shipping with a two-day lead time on the Zabar’s website, for anyone whose team spirit can survive a cookie spending two days in transit.
Game 2 is tonight at 8:30 p.m. in San Antonio — enough time, perhaps, to work a tote of cookies into your viewing-party plans. On the Upper West Side, it tracks.
