The new Trader Joe’s on the Upper West Side has opened! The official opening date was Friday, May 4th (thanks to fan Christina Danielle for the tip)! The store is located on the ground level of a 30 story condominium at 670 Columbus Avenue (93rd Street). The building’s alternate address is 100 West 93rd Street.
The new is close to 12,000 square feet, and will provide another option for those who currently shop at the Columbus Square Whole Foods.

“A welcome addition to the neighborhood. The crowds so far are pretty packed, hopefully it will calm down soon, because this is a welcome alternative to the 72nd street location, as there are no broken escalators to deal with here. One floor, wide aisles. And of course, what really stands out in this city known for rude employees everywhere, the employees here are the best, just the nicest.” “It’s great to have TJ’s in the 90’s! Always a great selection and nice service. This new store is very clean like all TJ’s. It’s a bit odd that the aisles are extremely wide on one side of the store and pretty crowded on the other. Plus watch out if you’re standing under the low hanging speakers – the usual loud music is even louder.” “This is the Trader Joe’s I didn’t know I needed. The UWS (72nd street) location is definitely bigger but this Trader Joe’s gets the job done as a local grocery store with affordable prices and delicious food. The aisles are wider than I’m used to (which is amazing when you’re pushing a cart through) and the store is laid out nicely if you’re the kind of person who shops while you’re on line. That said, there are 25+ registers and they already have line management down to an art. The flower display is larger and more organized than 72nd street. The overall selection is smaller than other locations but I still found everything on my list!”
The original UWS Trader Joes is located on 72nd and Broadway. The lines here are known to extend out of the store and around the block. So having a second Trader Joe’s on the UWS will be a very welcome relief for Upper West Siders. Especially for those who live above 86th Street and are having a hard time making the commute.
