Earlier this week, a closing sign was posted in the window of My Most Favorite Food, a kosher restaurant and dessert destination located at 247 West 72nd Street, between Broadway and West End Avenue. Thanks to Jessica Stark for the tip.

“Lost our lease but not our existence. 40 plus years strong, we are still here for all your celebrations,” the sign reads, with an additional heads up for patrons to “Look for our new brick and mortar launch of My Most Favorite – Version 5.0.”
An employee we spoke with on Friday morning told us it would be the last day of indoor dining at the UWS restaurant. However, you can still (at least for now) order by phone and pick up from the 72nd Street location. Catering will also continue, and beginning next week, the restaurant will be doing deliveries around its Upper West Side delivery zone, still to be determined.

The person we spoke with was unsure when the lease actually ends, and as of writing, they do not have a new location locked down.
We reached out to the agent of the property, Aaron Sirulnick of Ditmas Management, who said he was “Very sorry to see them go. We worked very well with the family who owns the business and provided them with the relief they needed during the pandemic. It was a decision that they made and we’re sorry see them go.”

We’ll provide an update once we know more about My Most Favorite Food’s future. If you’re looking for some pick-up or delivery (starting next week), options we recommend include the Tuna Melt on Baguette, Grilled Salmon Caesar, the Homemade Gnocchi with handmade pesto, sun dried tomato relish with baby arugula and the Beer Battered Fish & Chips. I can’t recall if there was another restaurant that came and went immediately to the Kosher place above but what I do recall with a great degree of fondness was the Vietnamese restaurant Van West that operated out of that same location for
many years. They had the enclosed section that’s still evident along 72nd Street
plus a cavernous space inside with an outdoor space all the way in the back.
The staff was Vietnamese as was the chef. They had one of those Asian fusion menus with Malaysian, Vietnamese and Chinese offerings. Prices were low, food was always fresh and ample; what I also can’t remember was if, similar to the old Cottage and Silk Road restaurants further uptown on Amsterdam Avenue, Van West offered free wine. All I remember was feeling the neighborhood lost some of its West Village-vibe when Poona (Indian), Brazil 2000 (Brazilian) and Van West departed — all on 72nd Street, the latter two between Amsterdam and Columbus. Los Panchos (Mexican) is also greatly missed, They were off Columbus Avenue on 70th or 71st Street — now, that was a great place with fabulous food coming out of the kitchen and a great front bar
with the best margaritas and guacamole in all of New York! Santa Fe doesn’t come close.
Would love to see a really good quality and fun Mexican restaurant in this space!
