Skipper’s NYC, the curated gift shop at 2876 Broadway, between West 111th and 112th Streets, will mark its permanent home in Morningside Heights with a community weekend event on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, according to an announcement from the shop. The store had originally opened at the address as a holiday pop-up before deciding to stay put.The festivities kick off Saturday at 11 a.m. with a formal ribbon cutting featuring founder and owner Claire Manship alongside honored guests. Sunday brings an ACC pet adoption fair to the storefront. Throughout the weekend, shoppers can expect free gifts with purchase while supplies last, storewide discounts, and giveaways open to the wider community.
Skipper’s has built a following for its mix of children’s toys, home goods, stationery, puzzles, candles, and self-care items, with an average price point of around $14. The shop is also an official LEGO vendor and stocks a rotating selection of local and independent brands. Manship, a longtime Harlem resident and actor, runs the business with her husband Anthony “AJ” Negrelli and their shop dog, Ellie.
“The Skipper’s team feels so lucky to have found a home in Morningside Heights,” Manship said in a statement. “As a brand, Skipper’s has always been about building community, and creating a space that feels like it belongs, in a small way, to everyone that visits. Our specialty may be gift giving, but we really feel like our neighbors in Morningside have given us the best present of all — a storefront that feels like home.”
The event is free and open to the public.
