Police have put out an alert about a male suspect wanted in connection to a menacing incident on the UWS last month. Authorities are hoping someone from the general public will be able to assist them in identifying and locating the man.
According to the police report, the incident occurred on Sunday, July 21 at about 4:50 p.m, when the suspect approached a 38-year-old male victim outside of 733 Amsterdam Avenue (between 95th and 96th streets, where Key Food is located).
NYPD officials say the suspect made anti-LGBTQIA+ comments towards the victim and threatened to cut him, simulating a knife.
The suspect then fled the location on foot, traveling north on Amsterdam Avenue.
No injuries were reported as a result of this incident, and the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating.
“The wanted individual is described as a male with a light complexion,” police say, adding that “He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt.”
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
If everyone in NYC who committed menacing was arrested they’d have to triple the size of Rikers.
Read the statutes.
Menacing in the third degree, and in the second degree are clearly defined crimes, not just something you might randomly call menacing. Repeat offenders get charged with menacing in the first degree, which carries more severe punishment. The hate crime enhancement, if applicable, also gives a defendant greater criminal law exposure.
So this photo of a man leaning backwards.while someone waves a finger in his face is the suspect?.I’m the photo he looks.like a menacing victim.
