Mediterranean Chain Taking Over Old Cleopatra’s Needle Space

The space has set empty since it was home to Cleopatra’s Needle (Google Maps)

Taim – a Mediterranean chain serving custom bowl and pita creations at its locations throughout NYC, NJ, DC and Maryland – has leased the space at 2485 Broadway, between 92nd and 93rd streets, according to @TradedNY.

The storefront was previously occupied by Cleopatra’s Needle, which closed towards the end of 2019.

The asking rent for the 1,308 square foot space was $200 per foot (per year). We don’t know what price was agreed upon, but if the landlord got what they wanted, the new tenant is paying $261,600 per year ($21,800 per month).

Taim’s menu lets patrons choose between a bowl and pita which they can fill with a variety of meats and veggies and top off with a whole bunch of extras.

Fillers include falafel, meatballs, shawarma, eggplant, and veggie versions of shawarma (with cauliflower) and kebabs (made with Impossible meat).

There are a whole bunch of pickled toppings (onions, cabbage, and pickles themselves), with the option of throwing some olives, hummus, tzatziki and feta on top of your bowl, or in your pita.

Sauce options include tahini, spicy green chile, tangy mango, harissa, whipped garlic, and lemon mint vinaigrette. We didn’t know what harisa was, either. It’s a hot chili pepper paste, according to its Wikipedia page.

A rep from Taim tells us they’re aiming to open in the fall, pending construction.

Here are some renderings they’ve provided us with:
