Man’s Body Found Weighed Down by Rocks in Hudson River

The NYPD was called at about 7:20 a.m. on Monday morning about an individual in need of assistance near 79th Street in the Hudson River.

Police arrived to find an “unidentified, unconscious and unresponsive adult male floating in the water at the above location.”

Officers from the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit (ESU) and Harbor Unit removed the man from the water. EMS pronounced him deceased at the scene.

According to multiple reports by publications including NBC New York and the New York Post, the man’s body was found fully clothed and weighed down by stones. A source told the Post that he’s believed to be in his mid-30s to 40s.

A report by the NY Daily News states he was found with a “clear plastic bag over his head.”

Footage shared on Citizen shows emergency vehicles responding to the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing and we’ll provide updates if and when we learn more.
