Mango’s Fifth Avenue Store, c/o Mango
Mango is bringing its European flair to the Upper West Side. The renowned Spanish fashion retailer will open a brand-new flagship store in the neighborhood later this year.

The Mediterranean-themed retailer will take over the 13,000-square-foot space at 1976 Broadway at 67th Street, previously home to Banana Republic, which closed in 2021. The storefront has remained vacant ever since.
The upcoming Upper West Side store will feature Mango’s full range of collections, including its Woman, Man, and Kids lines. This marks Mango’s fourth Manhattan location, joining its existing stores on Fifth Avenue, SoHo, and Hudson Yards.
“We are thrilled to continue executing on our expansion plans by increasing our footprint in New York City, one of the most important fashion locations in the world,” said Daniel López, Mango’s Director of Expansion and Franchises, in a statement released by the company. “This opening reaffirms our deep commitment to the U.S. market, a fundamental pillar in our global strategy, as well as the positive reception of our differential value proposition by our customers in the U.S., a key market that is experiencing double digit growth.”

Founded in 1984 by brothers Isak and Nahman Andic in Barcelona, Mango has grown into a global fashion powerhouse with over 2,700 stores in more than 115 countries. This opening is part of the company’s ambitious U.S. expansion plan, which includes adding 20 stores and increasing its workforce to over 1,200 employees nationwide by the end of 2025.
The Upper West Side’s retail landscape has faced significant setbacks since 2020, but with the arrival of brands like Mango and the upcoming Wegmans in Lincoln Square, signs of revitalization are finally on the horizon.

Great, but when will a grocery store move into the old Gristedes space on 86th and Broadway? It’s been10 years vacant!
Hello Whole Foods? Hello Trader Joe’s?
I don’t know how systematic or thorough their market research has been but I’m not sure that the UWS neighborhood — which couldn’t support the more mid-market Century 21 over time — will support an up-brand/Upper East Side aesthete, high fashion enterprise like Mango. On the other hand, as much as I personally welcome having a Wegmans nearby, we now have far, far too many grocery/meal prep plus places to choose from…..are you ready? Whole Foods, Target, H Mart, William Sonoma, Morton-Williams, Fairway, Citarella, Pioneer, Zabar’s, Jubilee, and Gourmet Garage. And that brings us to #12: Wegmans. You can’t be serious. What data or smooth talking retail consultants are convincing these deep-pocket entrepreneurs “Hey, you know what this neighborhood is dying for? More grocery, fresh produce and international food purveyors.”
That area is finally getting some new energy–but the Broadway area from 79-96 is still pretty much a wasteland compared to pre-pandemic times
