Early Monday morning, a 40-year-old man was assaulted by a group of three individuals on West 91st Street.
The incident occurred near 70 West 91st Street at around 12:30 a.m. “A gray suburban vehicle approached the victim near the Sol Bloom Playground and PS 84 on 92nd Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue,” according to Patch. Three men, one of whom was wearing a ski mask, hoodie and black jeans, got out of the SUV and approached the individual.
“Don’t move,” said the ski-masked bandit. “Yeah, you got money, we know you got money,” he continued before striking the victim in the face with a black handgun. The victim suffered lacerations to his face.
After the attack, the two other thieves removed the victim’s iPhones, a Rolex watch, a wallet, and $300 in cash from his pockets, according to an NYPD spokesperson. The items taken are valued at approximately $46,580 in total.
Following the violent robbery, the assailants returned to their gray SUV and drove away to parts unknown, said police.
The victim was transported by EMS to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition.
There are currently no arrests and an investigation is ongoing.
Um, not a great place to hang at 12:30 AM.
Wasn’t good in the “good old days” either.
That’s a high price for a Rolex.
and what was he wearing? Likely asking for it
Anyone who says the victim of a crime was “asking for it” needs intensive psychotherapy.
it was sarcasm.
GH,
You’re missing my points entirely. Likely on purpose.
Sarcasm noted.
That price for a Rolex suggests something else going on.
“not a great place to hang at 12:30 AM.”
Blaming the victim is not OK, at least in my opinion.
GH:
The victim is partly to blame, and the price of the watch suggests something else.
He was wearing a really low cut sexy red dress that exposed his knees all the way to his ankles, the bodice part allowed visibility of deep cleavage!
Perfectly dressed for a rape!
I mean… robbery?!
Maybe he wasn’t hanging out. Maybe he lives nearby. Not his fault. Obviously they were watching him. Can’t even look at your watch or your phone. So sad. Being hit was also not necessary. Just seeing the damn gun would have gotten the job done. Greedy and sadistic sickos.
Phoebe,
The ostensible price of the Rolex suggests that insurance fraud is a possibility.
Also, he was sitting down on the sidewalk which is a dumb idea at that hour on that street, source: the West Side Rag.
Phoebe,
Yesterday, the West Side Rag reported that he was sitting on a bench.
Yes, “they” may have been watching him, but the Rolex price suggests a different reason for said watching.
Hint, $40,000 Rolexes exist but they’re not super common. Patak Phillipe on the other hand…
So they’re all splitting the insurance or what.
I’m sure glad I sold my Patek. Now all I have to worry about is filing a claim for our pug when she gets jacked.
So a man who owns a super expensive wristwatch sits on the sidewalk and waits, expecting insurance to help with a scam? Hahahahaha. Every single word needed to be capitalized, that’s how lame this who story is.
That said, I’m sick and tired of the new crime, same as the old crime.
Phoebe,
The help would have been arranged ahead of time.
You can bet that the NYPD and the guy’s insurer are looking at the possibility of insurance fraud.
