A 48-year-old man was struck and killed by a train at an Upper West Side subway station on Monday morning. Police confirmed the death to ILTUWS on Tuesday and said the man’s identity won’t be released until his family has been notified.
The incident happened at the station on 72nd and Broadway at around 9:20 a.m. Officers arrived to find the man on the southbound 2 train tracks unconscious and unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he was pushed or how he ended up in the path of the train, and police haven’t said whether the death is being investigated as suspicious.
The incident was first reported by PIX11, which noted that it caused delays across several lines during the morning. Nos. 2 and 3 trains were running local, and the A, C and D lines were also delayed, according to the MTA.
