Man Arrested for Assaulting 77-Year-Old Woman

One of the individuals wanted for assaulting a senior citizen on the Upper West Side this month has been arrested.

Anthony Melendez, a 37-year-old who resides at a NYCHA building in Brooklyn, was arrested on Thursday, September 19 for assaulting a 77-year-old woman at 27 West 72nd Street.

Melendez was cuffed within the confines of the 20th Precinct. He’s facing charges of second degree assault.

Melendez committed the assault on Friday, September 13. It was one of two assaults against senior citizens on the Upper West Side that day. According to the police report, he randomly punched the woman in the eye at about 2 p.m.

The other suspect–wanted for assaulting an 81-year-old woman who was walking her dog on 66th and Amsterdam Avenue–is still wanted by police. Here’s his photo:
