One of the individuals wanted for assaulting a senior citizen on the Upper West Side this month has been arrested.
Anthony Melendez, a 37-year-old who resides at a NYCHA building in Brooklyn, was arrested on Thursday, September 19 for assaulting a 77-year-old woman at 27 West 72nd Street.
Melendez was cuffed within the confines of the 20th Precinct. He’s facing charges of second degree assault.
Melendez committed the assault on Friday, September 13. It was one of two assaults against senior citizens on the Upper West Side that day. According to the police report, he randomly punched the woman in the eye at about 2 p.m.
The other suspect–wanted for assaulting an 81-year-old woman who was walking her dog on 66th and Amsterdam Avenue–is still wanted by police. Here’s his photo:
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
Nothing will happen to either of these guys. They will get a desk appearance ticket and let back out to do it again. This is the new normal for NYC residents thanks to our elected Manhattan DA.
Agreed. I may even recommend keys to the city.
I was punched on the subway at 72nd station exit and had my nose broken. It was witnessed by a police officer and 2 others. The person who assaulted me was arrested but please bargained it down and only had to go to anger management classes. He was immediately let out to assault others.
He did something like that two years ago:
