Almost a year ago, the owners of Long’s Bedding at 121 West 72nd Street posted an unfortunate sign in their window. After 108 years on the Upper West Side, and 87 years on 72nd Street, they announced that they’d be closing down their store. But the good news is that the family-operated business is not shutting down. They will be opening a new location on the Upper East Side.
The original sign stated that they’d be open at 121 West 72nd Street through the end of 2019, and that the new location actually wouldn’t be that far (1220 Third Avenue is located right off the corner of East 70th Street). So long-time fans and friends just have to hop on the m72 to continue supporting the family-operated business.
Now they’re in the processing of schlepping everything across the park (workers and a truck were outside the store today).
After having a beloved mom-and-pop business in this location for so many years, the new tenant – whoever that may be – will have a lot of pressure to not suck.
