Large Pack of Elves to Assemble in Central Park this Weekend

Last modified on December 16th, 2024

A swarm of elves will be congregating by the picnic tables behind Heckscher Ballfields in Central Park on Saturday, December 14 at 12 p.m.

Two lifelong friends, 14- and 16-year-old boys who are both big fans of Elf (2003) starring Will Ferrell, were the ones who came up with the idea. Their parents, while thrilled to see them being creative and having fun while staying out of trouble, decided to incorporate a charity element to give back for the holidays. (They also secured all necessary permits.)

“For every person who attends Project Elf in costume, we will donate $100 to Citymeals on Wheels (capped at 500 elves),” reads an event flyer shared on Instagram.

That’s up to $50,000, which would be coming directly out of the boys’ parents’ pockets. One family lives on Central Park West, while the other lives in the West Village.

In addition to congregating in elf attire, the afternoon rendezvous will feature professional carolers aiming to inspire the elves to join in .

When asked about the projected turnout, one of the parents told us she’s expecting about one-hundred costumed participants, though there’s no sign-up page–so this is just her estimate.

Folks of all ages are free to attend. Just show up…you never know who you might see! Here’s the official Instagram page for the event.
