A popular kosher barbecue spot in Crown Heights, Izzy’s BBQ Smokehouse, has expanded to the Upper West Side, YeahThatsKosher.com has announced.
The restaurant is located at 660 Amsterdam Avenue, between 92nd and 93rd Streets. The last tenant to occupy this space was Numero 28 Pizzeria.
Izzy’s UWS restaurant is offering some new items including a smoked pastrami sandwich, as well as its Crown Heights favorites like Korean Chicken bites, Back Ribs and hand cut fries, Yeah Thats Kosher mentioned on Instagram.
The description on the restaurant’s website states that “Izzy’s is an award-winning smokehouse in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. Pit-master Izzy Eidelman brings a local twist to a Southern tradition, combining simple ingredients with quality meats to create a unique and laid-back dining experience for the BBQ lover.”

Will there be EMTs & Hatzloah available at all times for customer cardiac emergencies? Is there a low fat/low sodium/gluten free but still tasty menu for those that want to avoid the ride to the ER? Welcome to the UWS Izzy & Good Luck!
$22 for a hamburger. Hmmm…
We loved Numero 28. Sad to see it go.
Kosher costs, my friend. A Kosher restaurant must pay extra for its meat, baked goods, wines and most other provisions. Also must hire a full time kosher supervisor. Finally, it is closed for business during the busiest 24-48 hours of the busiest times for a restaurant including Friday night, all day Saturday and, most of the year, Saturday night. Terrible business model business which drives the price of a burger above $20. If I myself were not Kosher, I would not pay those prices. But it is important understand what drives the costs WAY up. Even with those high prices, I urge all UWSers, both Kosher and non-Kosher, to try Izzy’s BBQ and, if they like, it patronize the place so it does not disappear and we have another empty storefront to blight the neighborhood.
Nice history lesson among other facts. Thanks
Is this place actually open? Why are there Google reviews from before the opening date?
I walked by the new place on the UWS many times hoping it would open.
Now you are BUT
Why aren’t you delivering???
