Signage for Lady M is up at 1 West 60th Street

Known for their bon bons and signature mille crêpe cakes, Lady M is opening a shop at 1 West 60th Street, between Broadway and Columbus Avenue. The luxury confectionery brand, with locations across the U.S. and Asia, blends French pastry techniques with Japanese sensibilities, according to their website. It opened its first-ever shop on the Upper East Side in 2004.

Despite the name “mille” (1,000), Lady M’s signature crêpe cake consists of 20 thin crêpe layers, each separated by a light pastry cream, with the top layer slightly caramelized. The creation was invented in 1985 by Lady M’s founder, Emi Wada, and sold at her Paper Moon Cake Boutiques shop in Japan. The cake comes in two sizes: six-inch for $70 and nine-inch for $115.

Lady M also offers mille crêpe cake variations, including green tea, tiramisu, onyx coffee, and pistachio, among others. When they opened their Rockefeller Center location in Midtown in 2002, The Infatuation reported, “We’re incapable of walking by a Lady M without stopping in.”

“Even if we manage to take a few steps past the entrance, we eventually turn around and give in to the gravitational pull of this dessert shop,” The Infatuation continued. They touted the original signature mille crêpe as their favorite, while also noting that they offer “regular” cakes, but the crêpe cakes are the real draw here.

The Los Angeles Times had a different opinion about Lady M’s cakes when they celebrated its arrival out west in August 2013. Highlighting the strawberry shortcake ($100), chocolate and vanilla checkerboard cake ($115), and couronnes de chocolat ($102)—a chocolate sponge with mousse, topped with white chocolate shavings—they described them as “exquisite.” Couronnes de chocolat translates to “the crown of chocolate.” These cakes come in nine-inch servings.

If you’re already salivating and can’t wait, there’s an online-exclusive “Slice of the Best: The Celebration Collection,” available for $132. It features three slices of their signature mille crêpes: green tea, chocolate, and pistachio.

We reached out to Lady M to inquire about their opening date; they told us they’re aiming for early to mid-2025.

While some Lady M locations offer no seating, based on the size of the room, we’re guessing you will be able to sit down here.
