A group of suspects are wanted for robbing two men, aged 20 and 21, in Central Park last month.
Police say that at about 9:05 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, “a group of unidentified individuals”–it wasn’t immediately clear how many there were–approached the young men near 62 West Drive (at West 97th Street) and “forcibly removed [their] backpack, headphones, and wallet before fleeing the location of foot.”
No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
More emergency/police call boxes need to be installed throughout Central, Riverside, Van Cortlandt and Prospect Parks. It’s unconscionable how few there are. Keep count the next time you visit any of our parks and see how many you find! That’s how we know Mayor Adams and many of our city councilwomen and men are full of hot air. They comment frequently about quality of life issues in the city and the heinous level of street crime but they can’t find the time or the money to install call boxes that would at least begin the process of allowing New Yorkers AND tourists to feel somewhat secure, protected and safe as they walk through our parks. I have rarely seen any police presence at the major entrances/exits to the city parks and this goes a long way to letting the bad guys who enter the parks know “Hey, no cameras, no call boxes, no police – I’m as good as invisible. Guess someone’s going to lose their iPhone, bicycle, wallet, purse or worse tonight!” Big cities like London, Paris, and Madrid don’t have this problem to this degree…what are they doing differently and why don’t we try to emulate them?
When they are caught, they’re let go, free to do it again, and they do.
