Ghemo, a Georgian Restaurant and Bakery, Opens on West 106th Street

Ghemo, a Georgian restaurant, bakery, and wine bar, has opened at 201 West 106th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam. We flagged it back in January when signage first went up. Ghemo started as a Georgian catering operation, still featured on the restaurant’s Instagram, before owner Guram Kharshiladze opened the brick-and-mortar location.

Wine is a central part of the concept, Georgian wine in particular, along with chacha, the country’s grape brandy. Georgia is widely considered the birthplace of wine, and Ghemo leans into that heritage.

The menu also includes Georgian lemonades in pear, tarragon, and vanilla cream, plus Borjomi mineral water and a full coffee program.

On the food side, the house signature is the Ghemo khachapuri, a cheese-filled bread with oyster mushrooms and a truffle cheese blend ($22). There’s also the boat-shaped adjaruli, topped with egg and butter ($17), and a Giant Adjaruli meant for sharing ($140). Khinkali, Georgian soup dumplings, come in beef-and-pork, lamb tarragon, and mushroom (from $12 for three). Mains include chakapuli, a veal stew with tarragon and green plums ($32); braised oxtails chashushuli ($30); and shkmeruli, roasted chicken in a creamy garlic sauce ($26). A charcuterie board with smoked sulguni, aged guda, sujuk, and basturma runs $55.

The bakery covers grab-and-go items, including penovani puff pastries, honey cake, napoleon, and kada, and there’s a separate cafe coffee menu that opens earlier than the dining room.

Ghemo currently holds a five-star rating across its first 33 Google reviews. Follow them for updates on Instagram at @ghemonyc.
