Every August, the National Council of Jewish Women New York (NCJWNY) – located at 241 West 72nd Street, between West End and Broadway – transforms into a “pop-up department store,” where kids from all over NYC can pick up all types of back to school essentials for free.
Items include outfits, backpacks filled with school supplies and books.
“What makes the B2SS so special is the in-store experience when children are empowered to select items that express their style without worrying how much it might cost.”
The annual Back 2 School Store debuted in 2015, and while NCJWNY was unable to create the store last year, they’re now back in business to help families in need.
This year’s event will take place between Sunday, August 1 and Wednesday, August 4. Families can either receive pre-filled backpacks, or visit the store to pick out items in person.
Please note: only vaccinated adults will be allowed in the store, and everyone is required to wear a mask.
All participating children meet specific eligibility criteria and have been pre-registered for participation in the Back 2 School Store through NCJW NY’s community-based agency partners.
