NYPD officials say four suspects are wanted in connection to a grand larceny incident that took place in Central Park last weekend. Police have put out an alert in the hopes that someone from the general public will be able to assist them in identifying and location the suspects.
According to the police report, the incident occurred at about 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, August 11. When a “37-year-old male victim placed his bag on a bench near 60 West Drive before walking away,” the group of four “approached the unattended bag and removed it from the location.”
Once in possession, the individuals proceeded to make several unauthorized purchases with the victim’s credit and debit cards totaling over a thousand dollars. After making the purchases, the culprits ran off in an unknown direction.

Aww but they’re just here for a better life, right?
What an obnoxious comment. You must be a MAGAt
you’ve made some nasty comments in the past
Collect them all and send them back.
They will live a short, high risk life. The shorter the better.
Agree with all of the above!
Who would leave a bag with anything valuable (credit cards, debit card, etc.) on a bench unattended???? You would think the 37-year old “victim” would know better. This theft would have likely taken place anytime and anyplace…in an airport, in a restaurant, on the subway, in a store, out of a parked car, etc. You simply do not leave valuables unattended! And why do the first three commenters assume that these suspects are migrants? It says nothing about them being migrants in the article…
Why? Because they are #MAGAMorons trolling. They’re exactly what you’d expect them to be.
I’m guessing you are miserable based on your hateful comments.
I don’t in any way mean this to be victim-blaming, but the wording in the description is puzzling. “Before walking away,” the victim of this crime left an “unattended bag” on a park bench, a bag that contains credit cards? An unattended bag is an open invitation for thieves like these four guys. Just glad there are clear images of them.
Exactly. Some guys swiping an unattended bag doesn’t exactly rate up there with crime of the year. Let’s avoid crimes with a bit of common sense, people.
Police should organize stings leaving bags and catching thieves.
If they can’t, we could. Use unattended Fairway bags and take photos.
Any action is better than none.
Like fake bills, leave casual perhaps slightly refined handbags in the park filled to the brim with Jiffy. See wht happens then.
Peanut butter or lube?
Ha!
Lube for Rambles, P.B. for all others.
Thrift shop pocketbooks filled with dog shit.
The #MAGAMorons are out in force. They know the comments aren’t policed. Smells like crap.
Look at the people you are defending.
Because unattended bags are never picked up by people who don’t own them.
Some times people call the bomb squad on unattended bags, especially in places like Grand Central, or at the US Open.
Why is this even up? Is it to prove the NYPD is doing its job in Central Park?
Well, the NYPD isn’t. They can’t find/arrest/stop muggings at knife point, some times with gun violence threats, and they sure can’t protect pedestrians from bicyclists breaking the law. But they can say: “hey, someones took an unattended bag, we’re on it”.
It was written in a very strange way. It is entirely possible that the person stood up to look at a bird or raccoon up in a tree and when he turned back, the bag was gone. Also, if it happened quickly, it is likely he was being watched and might have been violently robbed if he hadn’t looked away. I’m really glad they’re flying drones in CP now. And for the ppl who make excuses for roaming bands of natives or migrants: I don’t care if you need money. What goes around comes around. It’s not about karma. It’s about your way of life.
Phoebe:
“Also, if it happened quickly, it is likely he was being watched and might have been violently robbed if he hadn’t looked away. ”
That’s BS speculation. Violence committed during CP robberies is mostly a night time thing, when the NYPD isn’t bothering with foot patrols.
Drones won’t do much regards the taking of unattended bags, especially at a time of year when leaves are still on the trees.
“And for the ppl who make excuses for roaming bands of natives or migrants: I don’t care if you need money. What goes around comes around.”
Point out the obvious, don’t leave bags unattended in Central Park, even to look at a racoon, is not making excuses for “roving bands”.
Jay,
That IS the obvious: Don’t leave your stuff unattended. Not sure what you’re getting at. Solutions? Most are better than, but not perfect. Still waiting. Glad you’re into BS.

Hey, let’s get back to the basics here UWSiders!!!!
As someone who has lived on the UWS for nearly all my life, I am truly troubled by the “migrant” comments…and yes, these are likely from the MAGA contingent. I would like to ask each one of them this: Where did you come from? Where did your parents or ancestors come from? And if you don’t understand that NYC is a melting pot…why don’t you go and live somewhere else???? (Like maybe in another state altogether or at least on the Upper East Side instead of the UWS!!!). YES…Adams is handling the migrant situation poorly…but I still cannot get over how these MAGA’s just assume that a robbery in Central Park, on a Sunday morning at 8:15 am, with an unattended bag (as the headline asserts) is because of migrants. Again…this is not Kansas, people! Don’t leave valuables unattended! And we have an obligation to our underfunded, hard-working police force! Let’s help them out by not creating Stupid Crimes like leaving a bag with credit cards , etc. out in the open by some DUMB 37 year old who should have known better! The police have enough serious crimes to deal with! I wished we lived in a kinder, gentler, honest world…but we don’t. So my final thought is that the guy who left the bag unattended was just a real dope.
I must respond to your comment that “Adams is handling the migrant situation poorly”. I completely disagree, as would anyone who carefully examines what is going on in our city. Adams is completely handcuffed by the progressive city council. Adams is legally obligated to follow the regulations enacted by the city council, which includes providing unlimited housing, schooling, food, etc to all migrants without an endgame. Adams is doing his best but is getting turned back by the city council at every move.
Um, so you want Adams to increase the street homeless population in NYC?
Really bad idea.
Yes, that would be a bad idea. Where did I say that is what I want? When did Adams say that. Folks like yourself have no clue how to approach complicated urban issues. You post stupid comments and pat yourself on the back.
Help us, if that’s what you think.
My q is: How do we get federal money to help Adams?
Your thoughts? Other ideas, instead of back and forth contradictions and insults.
We need good arguments! (Monty P)
“WE” need to elect members of congress (senators, congressmen) who will fight for federal money for NYC. As individuals there is not much more we can do. Other than ask/demand, there is not much more Adams can do.
Who are they? How do we get them to do this? Or do you just want to flaunt your secret knowledge without sharing, which, by the way, won’t help “us.”
I’d rather show my ignorance and learn something than keep quiet and help no one, least of all, myself.
Phoebe:
UWS sider[redundancy alter] for life just wants to complain, without finding solutions.
One thing the feds could do that would cost nothing: Stop trying to coup Maduro.
That would be wise.
Thanks for responding.
And ppl: This discussion has nothing to do with Mega. That’s just dumb. We all love NY otherwise we’d leave for cheaper, duller and safer places.
Whichever pols can get us some help, come on down, b4 we all need our own security detail or worse…
UWS,
You implied that the migrants from Venezuela shipped here by the likes of Greg Abott shouldn’t be housed and fed.
Again with the MAGA comments. Take a look at the pictures of the youth perpetrating robbery crimes at the south end of CP and draw your own conclusions. Why do you have to be labeled anything if you’re just sick and tired of crimes escalating where you can’t go into the park after dark these days, basic items are under lock and key in stores, mopeds running folks down on the streets. Stop labelling, stop making excuses for bad behavior and start acting.
They lack any policy suggestions, mostly because their policies are what has gotten them into this mess to begin with.
The Party needs its 3 Minute Hate.
Do you mean to say that you think that in 2018 you could leave your bag unattended on a bench in Central Park during the day time and NOT have it taken?
This article is excuse making for the NYPD not doing anything about serious crimes, muggings, stabbings, shootings and threats of violence in CP.
It’s the NYPD letting it be known that it can follow up on a nonviolent crime that anyone who uses CP should know how to avoid being a victim of.
Did the NYPD ever solve the pipe bombing which took off a guy’s foot in Central Park 5 or 6 years ago?
You have a delusional idea of what CP was like 10 years ago.
I feel sorry for you, Jay. You are angry and obviously unhappy despite living in the best city in the world!
UWS sider (redundancy):
So you have no response to obvious points about CP and long term NYPD failures.
Sure, every time an e-bike driver drives his e-bike near me in some illegal+dangerous maneuver, I feel upset. Also kind of an “eff pedestrians” from the NYPD every time I see an unplated (or obscured plated) motorcycle, which is usually running a red or driving the wrong way down a street. The [throttle] e-bike thing happens to me once every ten days or so, the I see about 2-3 unplated motorcycles per day.
Your posts are clueless and out of touch with how people live in NYC.
Jay you are just another MAGA jerk who looks in the mirror and hates what he sees. Typical. And, you are clearly not very bright based on your comments. Later, dude. I LOVE NYC!!!
UWS redundancy,
Looks in what mirror?
I don’t drive illegally on an e-bike.
I’m not the one who told the NYPD to class e-bike driver law breaking, which has killed pedestrians, as a quality of life issue.
I know you don’t know what MAGA means to Trump fans, which I am not.
I doubt you live on or visit the UWS. And if you do, apparently you don’t walk very much. You’re spewing ignorant e-bike driver defenses.
Ok, calm down everyone. These bags were left there on purpose so people in need can take them. They had canned food, a subscription to the NYTimes, a three pack of t-shirts, and various body creams. I collected them from area merchants and left them out for charity.
