Upper West Siders may have noticed a heavy emergency presence on Friday afternoon, when a wave of FDNY trucks and EMS units descended on a residential high-rise in the neighborhood.

The activity was centered at 150 West 96th Street, between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues, where the FDNY received a call about a fire at 3:18 p.m. The blaze broke out on the eighth floor of the 15-story, 21-unit multiple dwelling, according to the FDNY.Manhattan *10-77* Box 1238

In all, 79 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. Firefighters had the fire under control by 3:47 p.m., and no injuries were reported.
The Red Cross of Greater New York said its responders met with one resident affected by the fire, who was able to self-relocate, and provided that person with referral and recovery information.
