Village Supermarket has purchased four Fairway locations – including the flagship Upper West Side store at 2131 Broadway. The other three stores are located in Kips Bay, the Upper East Side and Chelsea. They have also won the bid for Fairway’s distribution center. The total purchase price was approximately $76 million, Olean Times Herald first reported (thanks to ‘Upper West Sider’ for the tip).
Village Supermarket owns and operates Shoprite and Gourmet Garage.
In addition, Amazon will be taking over two Fairway locations in New Jersey.
Fairway had recently received another $75 million offer from Bogopa Enterprises Inc, which is based in Brooklyn and operates 26 Food Bazaar supermarkets.
A press release included the following statement by Fairway’s CEO, Abel Porter:
“We are pleased with the outcome of the auction and are grateful for our dedicated and hard-working employees, suppliers and distributors during this process which has taken place in these unprecedented times. Serving our community has always been our top priority and we remain committed to providing quality items and a safe shopping environment for our customers and our employees during this global health crisis.”
What about the location on 130th & 11th Ave.?
Any word on the Harlem store at RSD and 130?
Should be 2131 Broadway
Was there an auction and did the original owner bid?
When will they close? What a shame.
