Encore Creativity for Older Adults — the largest nonprofit choral organization in the country for adults 55 and older — has opened registration for its spring 2026 season, inviting newcomers and returning members to join a new semester of music-making, community, and creative exploration.
The nationwide program serves more than 2,300 singers across 12 states through its varied ensembles, ranging from traditional chorales to Broadway and contemporary rock groups. This spring, Upper West Siders can take part through the neighborhood’s own Encore Chorale, which rehearses weekly at Broadway Presbyterian Church (601 West 114th Street).
Encore’s approach is intentionally welcoming: there are no auditions, and singers of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. The organization emphasizes not only musical enrichment but the broader benefits of group singing for older adults—improved physical health, emotional well-being, and cognitive strength, all backed by consistent research.
“Encore continues to expand its reach and impact, offering older adults a transformative opportunity to experience the power of music while building community,” said Joshua Vickery, CEO of Encore Creativity. “Our spring season brings exciting new repertoire and meaningful performance opportunities that welcome singers at every stage of their musical journey.”
This year’s lineup includes:
- Encore Chorales performing classical and contemporary choral works
- Encore ROCKS, a high-energy rock and pop chorus
- Encore Broadway, featuring musical theater favorites
- Arts for Life ensembles such as Sentimental Journey Singers and Melody Makers, designed for participants experiencing cognitive change and their care partners
- Workshops, masterclasses, and other arts enrichment offerings
- New pilot programs aimed at expanding access in underserved communities
All groups rehearse weekly under the direction of Encore’s professional conductors and music staff, leading up to end-of-season concerts open to families, friends, and the wider community.
Registration for spring 2026 is now open at encorecreativity.org, and early sign-ups are encouraged as many programs fill quickly. For more details about locations, schedules, or enrollment, visit encorecreativity.org or email info@encorecreativity.org
