83-Year-Old Woman Dies After Early-Morning Fire at Senior Housing Facility

And 83-year-old woman has died following an early-morning fire that broke out on Friday at a senior housing facility on the Upper West Side.

The fire was reported at 6:19 a.m. at 230 West 103rd Street (at the corner of Broadway), a senior residential building called The Marseilles. Firefighters responded to a reported apartment fire, prompting a significant emergency response.

In total, 12 FDNY units and 60 fire and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene. FDNY officials initially said one civilian was critically injured and transported to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment. Per a follow up report by the NY Daily News, the victim was an 83-year-old woman who has since been declared deceased.

No additional injuries were immediately reported.

The fire was brought under control by 6:54 a.m., thirty five minutes after the initial call. Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.

The incident comes just days after a massive four-alarm fire on West 107th Street that displaced dozens of residents and caused extensive damage to a nearby residential building.
