The incident happened around 6:48 p.m. at 89 Convenience Mart, located at 2416 Broadway near the corner of West 89th Street. The worker, identified by the Daily News as 22-year-old Hassan Al-Sufyani, had been on the job for less than two months when the confrontation unfolded.According to Al-Sufyani, one of the suspects entered the store claiming to be a police officer and demanded to conduct a search. When Al-Sufyani refused and asked to see a warrant, the man reportedly lifted his shirt to reveal a gun. A physical struggle followed, during which a second suspect entered the store and attempted to steal UPS packages from the deli, which also serves as a package drop-off location.
Despite being outnumbered and facing an armed suspect, Al-Sufyani said he managed to push both men out of the store after a brief fight. The suspects ultimately fled with only two small packages, the Daily News reported.
“I wasn’t going to let them rob my place,” Al-Sufyani told the outlet.
