It was a beautiful Sunday, and some Upper West Siders enjoyed it by dancing to a solo performance on 83rd between Riverside Drive and West End Avenue. The street was closed to traffic from 3 to 5pm, and the live concert featured “singer and nightclub performer” Sal Soloman. Kids sat on blankets, neighbors brought their dogs, and others just watched from their stoops.
Here’s a video of the event, taken by Rob Cullen:
“He sings better than Sinatra!” read a flyer posted for the event.
“It was an hour-long concert. It was a great time watching neighbors come out not knowing what was going on and starting to dance in the street,” says Rob, who took the video.
When will this happen again?
Hi Jeff,
This was a W. 83rd St Block Association event. We’re hoping to do it again before the weather gets too cold!

Sal Salomon (not Solomon) sang on W83rd St on Sunday and was fabulous! He spread joy across our block and was a great antidote for all the negativity we’ve experienced lately. We all needed to it. FYI Salomon can be heard at Club9 on 9th Ave. two nights a week too.
